This month, Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) would like to recognize the cheerleading squad from Cerro Gordo High School in Cerro Gordo, IL for their hard work and dedication in helping out their community.

This squad is involved in many different community service projects throughout the year, but the one that they have focused on the most this year is breast cancer awareness. Every year, the Cerro Gordo Cheer squad puts on a cheer camp for young kids in their community, and this year they are using Breast Cancer Awareness as the theme for the camp.

Besides learning cheers and stunts, they also to talk with young girls in the community about cancer and how to help keep loved ones protected. The participants at the camp also had the chance to perform at their local town festival and invited cancer survivors to come up. Throughout the camp the squad members also took donations for the Susan G. Komen foundation.

Along with running the cheer camp, the squad has been the “cheerleaders” at the annual Decatur Race for the Cure for the past few years.

“Last Saturday the squad members were named the ‘official cheerleaders’ for the local Race for The Cure in Decatur, IL. The moms came to run the “I Am the Cure’ booth while the girls cheered on participants and passes out information. What a moving day for us!” said Cerro Gordo Coach, Melissa Cripe.

UCA is proud to recognize the squad from Cerro Gordo High School for all of her hard work and dedication to their community. We hope they inspire your team, too.
