June

Wrestling cheerleader times don’t always get the recognition they deserve and at times they’re put on the back burner. But that’s not the case with Tamara Parsons. She is the wrestling cheer coach for the Mountain View High School and she always puts her team first. That’s why she’s June’s “Coach of the Month.”

Tamara has a lot of experience with wrestling cheerleaders, and was on the wrestling cheer team when she was in high school. Little did she know that one day she would be coaching her own team.

It wasn’t until Tamara’s daughter started cheering at Mt. View High School that she got involved with cheerleading again. She started out as a parent volunteer, working concession stands, organizing fund raisers and watching our practice when our coach wasn't able to be there. In the meantime, she has taken over the coach role and has been the coach for four years.

Tamara has done a lot to build up the squad. In her second year of coaching, she entered her squad in a competition for the first time. The squad finished 1st in their division.

Sara Parsons nominated Tamara for Coach of the Month and says, “Tamara believes camp is very important for the girls, because it brings all of them together. A lot of the girls couldn’t afford camp last year, but Tamara thought it was important for all of the girls get the experience of being at a UCA camp with their team mates. Plus, she didn’t want them to feel like they were missing out. So last year Tamara helped out her team and paid for the girls who couldn’t afford it. The girls really look up to her. She puts her girls first, and takes time out of her schedule to help these girls improve their cheerleading skills.”
